The Ithaca City School District is preparing our sons, daughters, and non-binary children to overcome the shackles of biology by teaching in a unit called Pronouns, Flags, and Feeling Safe in which they learn:
Binary notions of gender, biology and sexual orientation exclude large swaths of human diversity. This diversity can be better understood by using spectrum-based models. Spectra make room for anyone whose experiences do not narrowly fit into binary choices such as man/woman, feminine/masculine or straight/gay.
In this unit, the students not only learn to ignore what was considered “settled science”, but they also learn to be agents of change by spreading the word to adults who may not be so woke. In this unit, the [s]tudents design a school-wide project that uses what they have learned to help their school become a more inclusive community. For example, students might decide to ask all teachers to list pronouns on their correspondence in order to normalize the practice. Students will act as agents of change to improve the inclusivity of their school.
We look forward to the day when biology and all other so-called hard sciences are wiped from the curriculum and replaced with social justice training for activists!
