Schoellkopf Only

In the name of Racial Justice, Smith College has done the right thing and eliminated using the word “field” in its School of Social Work. The School of Social Work at the University of Southern California was the first in the nation to make this virtuous change.

The decentering of whiteness must also happen in college sports.

At Cornell, we must begin the difficult conversation and admit that Schoellkopf Field was not originally designed for the diverse students, staff and faculty that we have now.

In the name of Racial Justice, we too must center the lived and historical experiences of Black, Indigenous and other communities of color.

The Babbling Bear calls for us to reflect on our systemic racist past and present to build a more just and inclusive campus for the future. In doing so, we can begin by making a language key, and then use it to eliminate the word “field” from every systemic racist use. Let’s start by calling “Schoellkopf Field,” “Schoellkopf Only.”
