Climate Change, DEI, and Free Speech: the Order is Not Only Alphabetical

The Babbling Bear is thrilled that President Martha Pollack

finds it “incredibly frustrating” that groups, such as the CFSA, attack diversity, equity and inclusion principles under the guise of defending free speech, and that she will defend DEI as strongly as she defends free expression.

By exercising her freedom to not listen to the rants of cis-heteronormative, male, patriarchal, transphobic and homophobic, Ultra MAGA white supremacists who claim that the DEI bureaucracy instils fear and stifles free speech, President Pollack righteously declared:

“Let’s not call attacks on DEI defenses of free speech — both those things can coexist.”

“I think at universities, both those things must coexist. Are there sometimes tensions? Absolutely. If you’re trying to create an inclusive environment, and you’re also trying to not be doctrinaire about speech, you’re going to have clashes. But that doesn’t mean by any stretch of the imagination that you can’t and shouldn’t be committed to both.”

We can be sure that, with the many leadership positions staffed with social justice warriors committed to DEI, and zero leadership positions committed to free speech, the commitment to the coexistence of both will be in the same ratio.

The Babbling Bear is almost certain that we will not be subjected to reading anti-authoritarian books such John Stuart Mill’s On Liberty for the all-read during the 2023-2024 academic year theme of “The Indispensable Condition: Freedom of Expression at Cornell.”

The Babbling Bear is also pleased as punch that with the influx of social justice warriors into the sciences armed to fight against microaggressions, it is now possible to fight climate change by chilling free speech in the name of DEI.
